Who I Am

Background Story: The book of Ephesians was a letter written by Paul to the church in Ephesus to encourage and instruct them on living out their faith in Christ.

Read Ephesians 3:12-19

12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. 13 So please don’t lose heart because of my trials here. I am suffering for you, so you should feel honored.

14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Big Idea: Live as a child of the Most High God.

John 1:9-13 says, “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

Oh how thankful I am that God calls us His child! Not a servant, which would have been appropriate being that He is the God who made the heavens and earth. No… we are His child. So special and loved by Him. Seen, recognized, unique and different than the rest. The joy of His heart and the object of His affection.

Because this is true- don’t live like a orphan trying to do life on your own. Run to your Father every time you fall and skin your knee. Run to your Father every time your heart is hurt by others. Run to your Father every time you feel sad, happy, alone, fulfilled, disappointed, excited, wounded, ashamed, joyful, fearful, or anything else. You are a child of the perfect Father who runs towards you, delights in your affection, wants to speak with you, and longs to draw you close in His embrace.

Today, pray for God to show you His heart as your Father and live in the confidence and identity of the One who calls you His!
