A New Song

Background Story: The Egyptians enslaved the Israelites for 430 years. The Israelites were led by Moses out of Egypt. But now the Israelites find themselves trapped next to the Red Sea with the Egyptians closing in. God commands Moses to pick up his staff and spread out his hands over the water. And God performs a MIRACLE and parts the Red Sea allowing the Israelites to cross on DRY land!

Read Exodus 14:30-15:2

30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

15 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
    the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
    my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Big Idea: True praise comes from our testimonies.

Moses and the Israelites were delivered from their enemies (the Egyptians) in an awesome and insane way! God made a literal path in the middle of a sea! When destruction was unavoidable… God Himself intervened! When the Israelites’ feet reached the other side of the shore, their hearts were immediately filled with praise. Praise is the heart’s natural response to the greatness and goodness of God in our lives.

Psalms 40: 1-3 says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.”

A new song. Every time we trust God through a trial, out of a slimy pit, or through a circumstance, a new song or testimony is deposited in our hearts. As we stand firm in Him and see His faithfulness, a song of praise and thankfulness wells up from within us exclaiming the goodness and greatness of our God. This testimony of God’s faithfulness causes many to, “see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.” Nothing shines brighter than a testimony of God’s faithfulness! It cannot be argued or reasoned. It can’t be disputed or ignored. Our testimony of praise becomes a witness to the world around us that God is real!

Today take a moment to write down some of the ways God has come through for you. Pray asking God for opportunities to share His praises to others bringing Him glory from your testimony!
