Storm Chaser

Bible Passages for Today:

1 Corinthians 10: 12-13: If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

1 Peter 1:13-16: So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

2 Timothy 2:22: Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

1 Peter 5: 7-9:  Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Big Idea: Watch and pray to not fall into temptation.

Have you ever heard of storm chasers? These crazy people monitor the weather looking for the “just right” conditions where a tornado can develop. They don’t wait for the tornado to touch down, but continually monitor the conditions so they can be on site when the tornado forms.

Temptation and sin are similar. The Bible says that Satan waits for an “opportune time” to bring temptation (Luke 4:13). Do you find it harder to resist sin when you are alone? tired? when you’re with a certain group of people? online? busy or stressed? What are your “just right” conditions where destruction has occurred in the past and how can you be on alert for it in the future?

1- Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you areas of weakness and the conditions where you are more likely to sin. Write it down in a journal or as a note in your phone. Take your need to God in prayer daily and in moments of need asking for help and strength from the Holy Spirit.

2- Read the word searching for truth regarding your sin struggle and memorize these scriptures, hiding them in your heart. To overcome this sin, it might require a removal of something or someone in your life. Surrender all to God, giving Him access and Lordship over everything.

3- Get fellow storm chasers in your life who you can be honest with. Share your struggle and ask them to pray for you. When the conditions are right for temptation, ask for prayer and accountability to help you remain strong.

The Holy Spirit will help you at your time of weakness giving you the strength to stand and proclaim, “Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly. The strong right arm of the LORD has done glorious things!” (Psalms 118:15)
