Seeing God
Background Story: The Psalms are a collection of songs, praise, prophecy, poetry, and confession. We know that about 50% of the Psalms were written by David, including today’s passage. For more information on the book of Psalms, check out THIS LINK.
Read Psalm 19:1-9
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
6 It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm,
and all of them are righteous.
Big Idea: God tells us about Himself in His creation.
When God created the world, He could have made it all one color. Each flower could be a clone of the next. The sunsets and sunrises could be a simple shade of beige. The world could exist in one note- like a continual B flat being played from the beginning to end of time. But God reveals Himself to the world in the vast expanse of His creation.
We see that He is timeless, without comprehension as we stare into the night sky. We glimpse His majesty as the eagle swoops down. We sense the quietness of His presence when the raindrops fall. We witness His holiness and power in the roaring of the seas. And view His perfection in the grace and beauty of the butterfly. We get a glimpse of the Creator God as we behold His creation.
How great and beautiful is our God! Today may we pray to know Him more and never lose our wonder in Him!
